I am a big believer in the power of experiential learning. To this end, instead of giving a talk about prayer, I'd much rather create a series of prayer stations designed to give students the opportunity to pray in a variety of ways.
Over the next several weeks, I'll be posting some of my favorite prayer stations. Prayer stations can be used collectively during a prayer night or individually, as part of a larger lesson. For example: This particular prayer station was used as part of a prayer experience during a winter retreat focused on sex, love, and dating.
Prayer Station: You're Amazing
Themes: Self-image
Supplies:
- Posters that say, You Are Amazing, You Are Valuable, and You Are Unique. (Note: You can make these posters yourself. However, The Dollar Store sometimes sells the super cheesy ones designed for classrooms. Those also work well.)
- Sharpies
Directions:
Relationship experts often talk about how important it is to know yourself before you enter into a relationship.
Look at each of the three posters.
Take a sharpie. On the You Are Amazing poster, make a list of reasons why you are amazing.
On the You Are Valuable poster, make a list of reasons why you are valuable.
On the You Are Unique poster, make a list of reasons why you are unique.
How will each of the things you just listed positively contribute to your relationships?
Finally, say a prayer thanking God for the things you just listed on each of the posters; The positive qualities and characteristics you will bring to your relationships.
