After President Trump signed the travel ban impacting refugees, I met with my student leaders. Together, we decided to postpone our previously scheduled discussion in order to insert a week into our teaching calendar about refugees. As Christians, my student leaders and I agreed this was too important an issue - and too relevant a conversation - to ignore.
The goal of this discussion was three-fold:
1. Educate students about refugees.
2. Explore what Scripture says about refugees.
3. Challenge teens to think about their response to refugees.
Our discussion went very well, thoughtfully engaging those present about this issue.
If you've considered talking about refugees with your teens, please do so. This is not an issue we can afford to stay silent on.
If you're looking for a resource to use with your teens, here's the refugee discussion I used with mine. Feel free to use or modify it to more effectively work in your context.
