I’ve been on maternity leave for the last eight weeks. While it’s been an incredible gift to bond with my newborn daughter, Kendall, I’m also ready to go back to work.
Despite this, I’m guessing I won’t be saying this after tomorrow. In my ministry world, Sunday marks the start of the program year. Even though I’ve got great leaders, I’m guessing that I’m going to quickly feel as though I’m underwater this week, as though I’m Stretched Too Thin. For that reason, I was excited to read Jessica Turner’s book of the same name, Stretched Too Thin
In Stretched Too Thin, Jessica explores how working moms can lose the guilt, work smarter, and thrive. She explores several key areas that help working moms thrive including practicing self-care, finding your rhythm at work, investing in your marriage, and parenting well. Each chapter contains personal anecdotes from Jessica’s life as well as quotes and information from a survey that Jessica conducted with 2000 other working moms. That research lends credibility to Jessica’s stories and advice.
Jessica’s book is VERY practical but unlike some books geared for working moms, it didn’t make me feel guilty as I read it – as though I was failing as both a mom and an employee. Instead, I felt encouraged and affirmed. The difference, I believe, is that Jessica lives what she writes. Despite the success of her book, she still works a full-time job in addition to parenting three young kids and writing.
I highly recommend Stretched Too Thin for any mom who feels as though they can’t possibly juggle one more thing in their lives. To them, Jessica’s words and practical advice will feel like a lifeline. I know because they did for me.

I was honored to receive a copy of Stretched Too Thin from Revell and chose to review the book. All opinions are my own.
